"After many years of business (6-8 years) with this agency, I’ve decided to move on to another local agent due to a huge mistake that costed me almost $9000. I had auto & home for 3 vehicles. On a day that was supposed to be a celebration (my daughter getting her license), I called asking if it’s better to add her separately or to my insurance. We gave her our old car as a graduation gift from high school. I was told it’s a better saving to add her to my insurance than separately. I took the recommendation of the agent and added her. No discussion was ever shared or discussed of coverage or details. Two weeks later, my daughter got in an accident (she was at fault). She hit a truck from behind. The truck was fine, but her Corolla was damaged heavily. I called to local agent to begin the claim and was advised she didn’t have coverage to repair her vehicle. I was lost and didn’t understand. Then I was explained that she had my old coverage that covers the person she hit only. I asked why this wasn’t discussed when I called and she was originally added. No comment was made. Silence. I ultimately was blamed for not paying attention or asking more questions. I had to come out of pocket almost $9000 to repair her first car. This broke my daughter’s heart. Took away the “first time” ever experience. She started college later that month, so this was huge. It also hit our finances hard. I escalated the complaint up the ladder to corporate and lost the fight. All I wanted was them to hear the story, understand how this happened, and make a decision to fix the matter. Nothing more! I ultimately ended up leaving this agency shortly thereafter. This matter “should” have been handled differently. Told the local agency that I may decide to pursue this legally. Was told by Jason Reed that if I do, to no longer call his agency because he would have to get his own lawyer then. Yes, he used these words! I felt betrayed. It felt like a breakup from a great relationship up until that point. But it showed me….its all business. And when companies can take responsibility, “most” of them won’t.
